Regional Horse Councils

In an effort to reach out across the state of Kentucky, the Kentucky Horse Council began to develop Regional Horse Councils late in 2008.  The first Regional Horse Council established was the Mammoth Cave Regional Horse Council.

Regional Councils consist of from 5-10 counties who band together to form an organization that is part of the main Horse Council, thereby benefiting from a first chance at programs, funding, grants, etc.  Each year, the Regional Horse Councils are allocated $1000 for use in their own region to improve the horse industry there.  Projects must be approved by the Kentucky Horse Council so that they are consistent with the mission and scope of the Kentucky Horse Council.

Each Regional Council has a board of directors consisting of two representatives from each county.  The board determines the direction of the Council, with input from the whole membership.  Meeting locations and times are determined by the board and members, and the Kentucky Horse Council keeps in touch to offer assistance, whether it be speakers, technology support, or information.

Regions are also eligible for the same membership rebate that associations receive, e.g. for each individual member who joins the Kentucky Horse Council, the Regional Horse Council is given $10 out of the membership fees.

If you would like more information about forming a Regional Horse Council in your area, please email the director (director@kentuckyhorse.org) to get the process started.
