Taught by Justin and Tori McLeod of 4Hooves Large Animal Services, LLC, this course is designed to educate emergency responders, veterinary professionals, animal control officers, horse industry professionals and other interested parties on how to care for and extract equines in potentially hazardous situations while remaining safe.

There are two levels of involvement in the LAER training: participants and auditors.  Participants will attend lectures and demonstrations, and will be involved in hands-on training. Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion. Participant spots are limited, so early registration is encouraged!

Auditors will observe all lectures, demonstrations and hands-on sessions, but will not participate in the hands-on portion of the program. Auditors will receive a Certificate of Completion for auditing the course.

Topics will include:

  • Animal behavior
  • Handling and restraint
  • Containment
  • Motor vehicle accidents and overturned trailers
  • Entrapments
  • Barn fires and wildfires
  • Unstable ground incidents (mud, ditch, ice, etc.)
  • Water rescues
  • Natural disaster preparation and response
  • Hazardous materials decontamination 
  • And more

Participant fee includes course materials, three (3) days of training and lunch for three (3) days.

Auditor fee includes course materials and lunch for the day for which they are registered.

*Payment must be received to secure  space in the program.

**No fees will be refunded, but personnel can be substituted.
